TIP RHINOPLASTY

Nasal tip rhinoplasty is a surgery that corrects defects of the nose tip without breaking the nasal bones. Only the cartilage is reshaped to make the tip more refined or less drooping.

WHO MAY BE A CANDIDATE FOR A TIP RHINOPLASTY?

Patients who may be candidates for tip rhinoplasty are those with a nasal tip that is:

  • Too wide or too thick
  • Drooping (hooked nose)
  • Too large
  • Asymmetrical
  • “Ethnic” noses

WHAT ARE THE RECOMMENDATIONS BEFORE NASAL TIP RHINOPLASTY?

Before undergoing nasal tip rhinoplasty, it’s important to follow certain preoperative instructions to optimize the surgery results.

It is recommended to:

  • Stop smoking at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the procedure. Smoking causes decreased blood flow, which can delay healing.
  • Avoid taking anticoagulants or anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin as they increase the risk of bleeding.

HOW DOES THE NASAL TIP RHINOPLASTY PROCEDURE TAKE PLACE?

The procedure is performed in an operating room at a private hospital.

The first step involves administering either general or local anesthesia with IV sedation. Most often, Dr. Lyor Hanan will choose to perform general anesthesia to improve your comfort during the procedure.

The second step is the incision. Dr. Lyor Hanan uses both closed tip rhinoplasty techniques with a hidden incision inside the nose, and open techniques where a discrete incision is made at the columella (the strip of skin separating the nostrils). Through this incision, the nose skin is gently elevated to reshape the cartilage.

The third step is reshaping the nasal tip. Excess cartilage is meticulously removed while maintaining sufficient cartilage height to prevent nostril retraction. Sutures are then placed between the cartilages to refine them.

The fourth step is to craft a cartilaginous graft, harvested on your septum, to support and strengthen the tip of nose. The bone is not broken during tip rhinoplasty.

The last step is closing the incisions. This closure is performed using dissolvable sutures that disappear after a few days to weeks.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE AFTER NASAL TIP RHINOPLASTY?

Recovery is generally very straightforward, with little pain, and Steri-Strip dressings remain in place for up to 7 days after surgery. There is no plaster or splint on the nose since the bone wasn’t touched.

There is little bruising (ecchymosis), but the tip of the nose is visibly swollen for 7 days, then gradually decreases over several months.

Return to work is possible after a few days. There is no nasal packing inside the nose. The sutures are dissolvable and therefore disappear on their own.

Regular post-operative follow-up at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year is extremely important for your surgeon. It allows them to photograph your nose at different stages and therefore best evaluate the result.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF NASAL TIP RHINOPLASTY?

The results of nasal tip rhinoplasty are immediately visible. Your nose will be more harmonious with the rest of your face. Refinement of the nasal tip and straightening of a drooping tip will be noticeable after 15 days. At 1 month post-surgery, three-quarters of the final result may already be visible. At 3 months, 90% of the result will be visible.

The results of rhinoplasty are lifelong and are final at 1 year post-surgery.
